HALLOWE'EN

Hallowe'en is celebrated on October 31st. In the old days, the Celts lived in Great Britain. October 31st was the day when they celebrated New Year. Their priests were called Druids. The name 'Hallowe'en' comes from txo Scottish words meaning: 'Hallows Evening'.

This name comes from an Irish legend: a man named Jack had to walk the Earth with his lantern until Judgement Day. Today, Jack-O-Lantern is a pumpkin with a face cut into one side; then we put a candle inside. We put them outside homes to frighten away witches and ghosts.

Hallowe'en Traditions

'Trick or Treat' On Hallowe'en, children ring on doors disguised as witches, skeletons, ghosts, ... to frighten householders. They say 'Trick or Treat' to obtain candies and money.

In the old days, people lit fires. Today, they only light candles.
